Massage Proven Effective For New Mothers

Women in tribal societies resume normal activities almost immediately after birthing. To get back into shape quickly, these women employ a number of natural techniques, including massage, abdominal binding, herbal treatments, diet, and steaming of the perineal region. All of these methods help the new mother to regain her strength, heal faster, and ease her way in subsequent births.

Massage is a sensuous, relaxing, and loving treatment that has the added bonus of being especially good for you. It is one form of "medicine" most people delight in taking! Massage is a wonderful way to reduce stress and promote general well-being.

Advanced fascial techniques can start after the 4-6 month of consistent yet gentle massage.  Without  using oil or lotion you have already started to feel the opening and softness that has happened. Don't stop now, deep work will really help you to prevent deeper adhesions that can happen in between organs from the surgery. keep doing the 2-5 minutes a day, and that pooch and urge to pee feeling will go away!  Lifting the tissue is an advanced move that greatly reduces chances of bladder issues, but stretches tissue out so that abdominal adhesions don't form in the lower part of the abdomen. Easy to do after several months of traction and rolling techniques, lifting tissue away form your core center will greatly increase the space in between the organs.  Use your breath to help tissue open while stretching and to  decrease tension and stress in your body and being. Feel free to use scar oil after massage is done.

 The abdomen provides us with so many vital functions, the importance of maintaining a happy abdomen can not be over emphasized.  Generations of different modalities such as breathing, yoga, tai chi, and other ancient art forms have always stressed the importance of the abdomen.  
The photo on the left shows compression on the inside of each hip bone.
This move greatly reduces menstrual cramps, back pain and helps with intestinal function.  Our simple psoas move on the hip bone area shows how easily and effortlessly massage can benefit you by reducing pain and freeing your energy. You may not be able to penetrate the tissue so well, so consistent yet gentle work will yield results sooner than you think! 
 You may realize that one hip bone is higher than another, especially if you carry baby on one side more than another. This is normal but will create back pain over the long run. Stretching, chiropractic, yoga, and massage will help reduce pelvic imbalances.
The front hip bones lets you know what is happening in your lower back.
Talk to your Doctor, Chiropractor, Physical Therapist, or Massage Therapist for some help, when your hip bones are higher and lower than another. That is when your hands, as they lay on your ASIS, (anterior superior iliac spine), are  uneven with eachother.
  When you combine the complicating nature of scars, adhesions, weakness from the surgery,
and carrying a new baby, things can happen!  
Easy move to reduce cramps:
Gently lay hands on hip bones, slide them onto belly and gently compress abdomen Breath into feelings and tissue, and patiently wait until the tissue softens and your hands sink deeper into the abdomen. Please do one side at a time, starting with the least sensitive side, and breath into the difference as you listen with your hands.
 
Please stay close to the inside hip bone for the best menstrual cramp reducer you will ever find. This move will also allow you to feel how far out to the side your abdomen was affected by the surgery.
 
Gentle pressure is all that is needed to create a change.  Move slowly over time until you can go deeper and have longer lasting results!

The Appendix Scar and C-Section Scar

My own abdominal surgery experiences led the  development of this kit and massage routine for people of all ages.

After 20 years of professional massage work, I had seen so many unnecessary scars with needless binding and tightness. My first  abdominal surgery was at 7 years old, an emergency appendectomy, with no abdominal support, or after care.

 I have done a tremendous amount of work on my appendix scar but there remains today deep chords and a shortness on my right side from the appendectomy.   My appendix scar is more visible than my C/S scar

My cesarean birth was done in my 40's in 2005 with the birth of my son.. I worked the whole abdomen, supported the incision after leaving the hospital, and did gentle massage on my abdomen for months. Gently touching my scar area daily.

 It took about 6 months to have the tissue smoothe out with consistent rolling, until I could work directly and deeply on the scar, and create a lighter scar.  It takes time  to work the scar out of numbness, into  strength,  and a lighter color, but a safe birth is priority.
